The camera formerly known as project Natal has been dubbed Kinect. In an announcement that was spoiled by Italian retailers, Microsoft officially announced the new name for the motion sensing camera formerly known as Natal. The newly dubbed Kinect was revealed in retail form at Microsoft's Sunday night press event. The final build of the camera is near identical to images that popped up a few months ago from an Italian tester.
While Microsoft was mum on pricing, Gamestop has listed the unit at $149.00 and set for a November 4th release date.
In addition, a slimmer sexier Xbox 360 SKU was announced. The upgraded console will feature built in WiFi support (rejoice), 250 GB Hard drive, 5 USB Ports, and touch sensative on off / eject buttons.
The new console is Kinect Ready with a built-in USB port designed specifically for the device. This port serves as both the power supply as well as input for the device. However gamers with the legacy console SKU's will need to plug in a separate power supply for Kinect in addition to the USB.
The new slimmer model is embellished with a piano black finish and supposedly runs much quieter than the older bulky models. So if you're in the market for a new 360 the "slim" has your name all over it. Hopefully that Red Ring of Death issue has been sorted. The new Xbox 360 slim will set you back a cool $299, it is also available in a bundle with Kinect for $399. The console (sans Kinect) will be available at retailers this week.
